Dorothy Porter

I was really saddened to hear the Australian writer, Dorothy Porter, had died from complications associated with cancer on Monday. She was 54.

In person I’ve often found poets and their poncey delivery just too much to endure.  And maybe that’s because I’ve only ever seen bad poets…  But I remember seeing Dorothy a few years ago now and she changed my mind. I loved her sparse, passionate, gutsy use of language and was totally captured by her words.  There was no bullshit about her.

A very sad and wholly premature loss.
