Blowing My Own Didj

didjI got mighty peeved by a post on another blog by someone calling herself a feminist, rabbiting on about the patriarchy and imperial oppression and whatnot and the ensuing babble created by her flock of followers.

Shitted me no end.

The post was in reference to Nicole Kidman playing the didgeridoo on German TV. Old news now, but here’s a choice article with a bunch of comments from another flock of fuckwits so you can check out what the kerfuffle was about.

The blog post rightly pointed out that the Aboriginal male who supposedly put some sort of curse on Kidman to the effect that she will have no more children should go fuck himself.

I wholeheartedly agree.

The guy was obviously the token blackfella journalists were able to get the appropriate quote from for the beat up they were seeking.

Women can and do play the didgeridoo and all the palaver about fertility has no bearing whatsoever on white women – particularly when it was probably a cheap knock off made in Thailand.

But what it does demonstrate is a complete lack of respect for Aboriginal culture which is diverse and multi-dimensional and that, as such, there is no unequivocal answer as to whether Aboriginal people believe women should play the didgeridoo.

Different strokes for different folks – which it seems, for most people, is too difficult to grasp.

What it does do is demonstrate a willingness on behalf of two white Australian stars to be complicit in the bastardisation and ridicule of a culture they should know more about.

As is often the case when it comes to whities discussing darkies on blogs, up popped these totally irrelevant and racist little pearls of wisdom:

“You know what really bastardizes their culture, drinking grog all day long and knocking up girls that are barely into their teens.”

“Grrr… Don’t get me started!”

I got told to “fuck off with your insults” when I pointed out that I thought these fighters of oppression needed to check their own bigotry and that it was a bit rich for an Irish native to raise the utterly irrelevant grog issue when Ireland is the second largest consumer of alcohol in the world, per capita, according the World Health Organisation.

Fuck. Me. Dead.

So I wont link back to it.

The article linked above also included these great insights too:

“For God’s sake – since when are we bound by Aboriginal customs – who cares!! How the hell can this idiot ‘guarantee’ that Nicole will have no more children? You got a ’sorry’ – now shut up and go away”

“Since Nicole obviously isn’t Aboriginal she isn’t bound by the same superstitions that binds Aboriginals. She might not see any problems with blowing (the didgeridoo)”.

“I for one am fed up with hearing aboriginals moan about everything, I’ve never had one come up to me asking if its all right to play any western musical instrument”

“There was Nicole inocently (sic) trying to promote aboriginal people to the world and they go and attack her for doing so. This portrays aboriginal people to the world as being intollerant (sic), reactive, antagonistic and unforgiving people and begs the question, why should aboriginal culture be more important than western culture, where womens rights are valued equally and women and within their rights to do whatever men can do. This is the sort of thing that causes whites to feel resentful towards them”

Aint we got some mofo geniuses in this country?

Grrrr… Don’t fucking get me started.

And should said blogger ever get back here – fuck off with YOUR insults.

  1. shows you what i know. i thought those things were no more than musical instruments.. i didnt know they held any beliefs of fertility or anything else..

  2. I saw a non-aboriginal Aussie perform an entire show on the didgeridoo backed by a blues band in Key West a couple of years ago. It was awesome. He had a whole array of different ones lined up by the stage. Forget his name, and it really has nothing to do with your post about inherent racism in the world. Just felt like typing a bit, is all.

  3. Whoa! Remind me not to get on your bad side.
